Monster of a play to air on Halloween

Anyone in the mood to hear a horror classic this Halloween can turn on a radio at 7 p.m. Saturday for a broadcast showcasing Tabor talent.
“Frankenstein: The Radio Play,” written by Philip Grecian, was performed live by Tabor students and recorded for broadcast on the radio.
Students gave three performances Oct. 8 to 10 as part of homecoming weekend. The broadcast will be aired at 7 p.m. Saturday on Radio Kansas, KHCC-FM (90.1 mHz).
The play is adapted from Grecian’s stage play and based on Mary Shelley’s 1818 novel.
Cast members include Elizabeth George, portraying Baroness Frankenstein, and Josiah Jost, portraying Captain Robert Walton and DeLacey.
Others include Mallory Ediger (Catherine Frankenstein and Birgitta), Joshua Gaede (the creature), Marilla Flynn (Elizabeth Frankenstein), Cody Crouch (Henry Clerval and Man 2 at cabin), Emily Crow (Justine Moritz), Matthew Harris (a guard), Stephano Moreano (Professor Waldman, Man 1 at cabin, and a priest), and Jaden Priest (Victor Frankenstein).
Jocelyn Van Meter was part of the cast as a female understudy.
George, Ediger, Van Meter, Crew, and Harris were sound effects artists for the performance.
Lauren Carlton directed a performance of the 202-year-old story about a scientist and his frightening creation.
“Despite consistent and thoughtful advice from their friends, neither Frankenstein nor the creature listen to reason,” Carlton said. “They instead pursue their own agendas to the detriment and destruction of everyone around them, a tragic and cautionary tale that can warn us of the dangers of playing God.”
Before TV became widespread, radio dramas were a popular means of entertainment in the U.S.
