Monsanto donates $2,500 to HHS FFA

A $2,500 donation from seed company Monsanto to Hillsboro High School FFA came at a fortuitous time.
Because of budget constraints, USD 410 Board of Education eliminated district funding for all out-of-state trips, including FFA National Convention, which begins today in Indianapolis, Ind.
HHS alumni Warren and Anita Unruh won a Monsanto drawing and were able to choose an FFA chapter to receive the $2,500 prize. It was an easy choice to make.
“Some of my best memories are out in that shop,” Warren Unruh said, referring to the school’s agriculture shop.
The Unruhs’ son, Nathan Unruh, is among 10 HHS students attending FFA National Convention. Kale Arnold, Seth Bartel, Kyler Borg, Lauren Geis, Landon Herbel, Olivia Kliewer, Darren Mueller, Taylor Nikkel, and Bryce Roberts will also attend. Sponsors Sonya Roberts and DeLayne Herbel will accompany the students.
The group will tour a Monsanto factory on the trip, in addition to other activities.
Mueller will compete in the national dairy cattle showing competition. The delegation will return after the convention ends Saturday.
