If you love western/cowboy music, plan to attend the 71st annual Labor Day celebration at Florence.
Activities start Aug. 30 and feature a poker run, soap box derby, kids’ ranch rodeo and mutton bustin’, and end up with a street dance at 8 p.m.
Michael Martin Murphey, “the best-selling cowboy music singer of our time,” will be in concert at 8 p.m. Aug. 31 in downtown Florence. He will be preceded by the Diamond W Wranglers at 6:30 p.m. Advance tickets ($20) are available by emailing: laborday@florenceks.com. For credit card orders call 620-878-4676. Events Sept. 1 events include a KCBS-sanctioned barbecue cook-off, parade at 11 a.m., kids’ games, Wichita Caledonian Scottish Bagpipers, and Doc Anderson’s Old-fashioned Medicine Wagon Show and will conclude with the Sweet Adelines.
