The Wichita officer in charge of rationing met with various groups here Wednesday to go over various phases of rationing rules. Registration for gas will be Nov. 9, 10, and 11 at schoolhouses. Rationing will start Nov. 22.

Jake Oblander left Wednesday for Russell, where he will take up his new duties as manager of a hatchery. The family will remain here for the present.

About 50 men attended a civil defense meeting Tuesday evening at the city building. Defense of the local community and cooperation with defense centers, blackouts, etc., were planned.

Mrs. Ernestine Klopfstein-Chester, teacher in the first and second grades in Bown-Corby, has resigned effective Nov. 5. Her place will be filled by Agnes Quiring, who has been teaching the Quarry School. She, her mother, and sister have been living in the Fred Mehlinger apartment.

The county Selective Service has a call for Nov. 3 with the following from Marion to be inducted into the service: Fred Mohn Anderson, Robert Leland Buford, Robert Carlton Kasper, Harry Orlen Patterson, and Billie Lee Wright.

Mrs. R.H. Newsom invited a group of Roberta’s friends to celebrate Roberta’s 9th birthday Monday evening. Guests were Dan Brodhead, Eugene Christensen, Juanita Ford, Patricia Henry, Ethel Hiebert, Joyce Keazer, Marjorie King, Milly Lou Matthews, Cora McCarty, Janice Meisner, Shirley Morehouse, Katherine Penner, Kathryn Popp, Mildred Pray, Joyce Marie Priess, James Propp, Richard Rhode, and Patsy Rittel.

Mrs. Charles Batt went to Manhattan on Friday and brought Dean Batt, Ruth Elaine Kreuter, and Frances Williams back for the weekend. Mrs. Earl Kreuter and Mrs. Paul Williams took them back Monday morning.
