In a major business transaction this week, S.W. Gound has purchased the interest of his partner, Ira Newcomer, in the Newcomer-Gound Motor Co., dealer in Ford cars.

With a fine brand of weather on tap to follow the unseasonable blizzard of March 10, the annual Spring Merchandise and Tractor Show is set to go Tuesday and Wednesday. The show consists of exhibits in the basement of the City Building and on the street in front of the building, along with a farm and home planning school, a style show, and shows by the Ark Valley Boys

Marvin L. Evans, 31, owner and manager of Peabody Hotel, was shot through the chest Wednesday night by C.B. Pace, 57, in the beer parlor just off the corridor in the hotel. Pace then went to a nearby drugstore, bought a tube of rat poison, and started eating it. Before it was taken from him, he had consumed enough to make his condition dangerous. Both men were taken to Axtell Christian Hospital in Newton, where they are in critical condition.

Myron Jantz celebrated his 13th birthday last Thursday with a chili and hot dog supper at his home. Guests were Michael Brodhead, Robert Ehrlich, Larry Johnson, David Wheeler Jr., and Marvin Wunsch.

Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hett are happy parents of a daughter, LaVonda Marie, born Wednesday morning, March 10, at the Marion hospital.
