During recent weeks, members of the Community Guild have been sorting and getting donated clothing sorted and boxed as to type and size. This clothing is now being stored in the C.B. Wheeler building and will be made available as needed. Those in charge of the “Clothes Closet” are Mrs. E.E. Phillips, chairman, Mrs. C.H. Mullen, Mrs. S.W. Gound, Miss Maude Thompson, Mrs. J.K. Muse, and Mrs. Gladys Neubauer.

Word has just been received that the city of Florence and the library in particular will be “saluted” on the Rex Allen show over the Columbia Broadcasting System from Hollywood next Monday evening at 9:30 p.m.

Marion High School Warriors open their 1951 football season with their first game at Moundridge September 12. They will be playing a foe that will be trying to repeat their resounding victory of two years ago, and break the 16 game winning streak the Warriors have enjoyed ever since.

Fred D. Allen has been named to fill the unexpired term of city clerk recently vacated by the resignation of Keith Kelsey.

Another step in the cleanup and “back to normal” operations that follow a flood is pictured on the front page as men work to right the impressive looking posts that mark the entranceway to the Marion park. The posts were toppled over by the swift currents of the July flood.

The newly-inaugurated hot lunch program at the Marion schools seems to be hitting the spot with the students, according to Mrs. Paul Minear, who is in charge. A total of 280 meals were served Wednesday noon.

All Rock Island trains, including the Rocket, returned to regular scheduling Wednesday, O.W. Emrich reports. The service was curtailed because of a washout on the lines near Topeka, when a temporary bridge gave way during last week’s high water.
