There have been three instances reported to the county treasurer’s office of county designations on the ’51 car license tags not matching front and rear. One tag in a set read “NM” instead of “MN.” If you have one with mixed up letters you can get a corrected plate by applying at the treasurer’s office.

The Junior Class of Marion High School will sponsor a cake walk in the MHS gym after the Hillsboro-Marion basketball game this Friday evening.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Meier entertained with a dinner at their home last Friday evening to celebrate the 14th birthday of their son, Verlin Gene. The guests included Norita Starkey, Nila Hoopes, Carol Beth Miser, Ann Davies, Carolyn Merrill, Janet Priddle, Judy Thatch, Carol Jean Allen, Wanda Propp, Ronnie Post, Joe Dvorak, John Waner, Bob Hiebert, Jerry Richards, Johnny Tuell, Lawrence Griggs, Leon Lais, Johnny Williams, Kenneth Gardner, and Paul Roberts.

Francis Roberts was honored Wednesday when he was elected to head the county clerks of the Central Kansas County Clerks Association. He and Miss Jewell Amick represented the Marion County office at the meeting.

Former Marion Countian James Allen of Emporia found a letter dated 1894 while tearing down an old house north of Emporia. It is thought to possibly have been written, but not authenticated, by the famous “Dalton gang” that roamed the Kansas plains and robbed and looted many a bank and business in the “good old days.”

Flint Hills Rural Electric Cooperation celebrated its 11th anniversary Thursday, marking a gigantic series of steps during the past decade at providing light to the Bluestem Flint Hills area of Kansas. The first lines were completed and energized Feb. 8, 1940.
