It was made known this week that construction of the American Legion building will start immediately after Christmas. Glen Petsinger, Hillsboro, will be in charge of the construction although it is not on a contract basis. A good deal of local volunteer labor on some of the work is planned.

According to latest reports the fate of Father Emil Kapaun, Army chaplain, remains uncertain. He was reported missing in action Dec. 3, but alive and well. Still later a United Press report dated Dec. 6 read that he is reported missing in action. No further word has been received.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert DeCatsye have sold their Horner Hotel Café in Florence it was announced this week. The DeCatsye’s plan to open a new eating place in Marion in the near future.

The telephone operators of Marion’s Southwestern Bell Telephone Company enjoyed a Christmas dinner at Coons’ Restaurant Tuesday evening, then retired to the company lounge for a gift exchange.

The party included Lillie Keazer, Marie Dixon, Winifred Meierhoff, Neva Fruechting, Dolores Hobson, Naomi Volkland, Elma Helmer, Catherine Heerey, Marjorie Bledsoe, Agnes Kurtz, Lucy Janzen, Inez Schambron, Peggy Hett, and Dorothy Melcher.

Jess Coons and Coach Floyd Yaussi took a group from the Marion High School basketball squad to Kansas City Saturday to attend a clinic in connection with the pre-Christmas NAIB tournament. Boys going were Ralph Richmond, Eugene Christensen, Ted Heath, Gordon Wingerd, Don Kline, Dan Brodhead, Robert Ehrlich, Bryon Ewert, and Ronnie Post.
