Wes Summervill who lives just south of the Marion County Park and Lake is shown standing in a field of his Pioneer hybrid corn. The stalks are far above Wes’ head and the spot in the field wasn’t picked as the place where the tallest corn grows. It was the only place the photographer could snap a picture without getting his feet muddy.

Aulne Methodist Church will celebrate its 75th anniversary Diamond Jubilee Aug. 4 to 6,

LaVern Hoffman, 12-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Earl B. Hoffman, won second place in the annual Soap Box Derby at Emporia last Thursday after he copped first in the “B” division held for the young racers. Hoffman participated in five heats before he was beaten in the finals, one length behind the winner. His prize was a Roadmaster bicycle.

Merrill Apartments at Main and Second Sts. will be finished around September 1, adding a new front to Marion’s Main St. Four apartments will be of the 3-room efficiency type with essentials furnished.

Ezra Bernhardt and Bill Utting have purchased the Nelson Super Service building and will move their John Deere and Pontiac agencies there August 1.
