A big blizzard that was to hit this area has passed around Marion, but this community did get a white blanket of snow, which fell late Tuesday night.
Marion County farms will soon be about 85 to 90 percent electrified, according to O.E. Mabry, manager of the Flint Hills REA. Considered an almost complete coverage, the first of four areas were energized Friday.
Former state senator Alvin S. Wight died today, Thursday, as a result of a highway accident early Tuesday afternoon east of Marion.
Judges toured the city Monday night and chose the Edward Good home as first prize winner in the annual home decoration competition. Second place went to the D.B. Jantz home. Tied for third place were the homes of Stanley Anderson and Ira Newcomer. Fourth and fifth places went to the Ed Navrat and Harry Propp homes.
After nine months voluntary hospitalization at Norton, Kansas, Dr. R.R. Melton was back in Marion Tuesday afternoon feeling fine and thoroughly enjoying seeing his many friends.
