Marion’s banks, Marion National and Farmers and Drovers, have decided to join the trend toward full-time during the week, with Saturday afternoons off. Beginning next Monday, they will be open Thursday afternoons and closed Saturday afternoons.

The junior play, “The Diary of Anne Frank” will be presented April 18 at the city auditorium. The cast includes Gary Babb, Carol Caselman, Larry Ensey, Dennis Hett, Neva Kelsey, Sherman Kelsey, Sherry Knoblock, Connie Jost, Dick Maggard, and Anita Schick.

Mrs. Bill Dwelle and August Schoneman are in the hospital after a serious two-car accident in smoke caused by a stubborn prairie fire. Mrs. Dwelle, Mr. and Mrs. Schoneman, and Johnny and Anne Higgins were in the Dwelle car, which was struck by a second car and erupted into flames.

Honoring their son, Jim, on his 16th birthday, Mr. and Mrs. Levern Ottensmeier were hosts for a surprise birthday party in the basement of Our Savior Lutheran Church. Guests were Pam Domke, Dennis Highsmith, Kathy and Henrietta Klein, Garry Klose, Dennis and Dick Maggard, Anita Ottensmeier, Charlotte Poppe, Mary Lou Rumpel, Dennis and Richard Swanson, and Pat and Connie Warneke.

Earl Winter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Winter of Marion, is stationed aboard a destroyer on picket duty off the coast of Cuba.
