Featured speaker at the Old Settlers Day program Friday will be former Marionite James Albert “Bert” Wheeler of Newton. A novel feature of this year’s afternoon program will be presentation of selected numbers from “A Modern Mother Goose” by a group of home talent players.

An armadillo, a real stranger to this part of the country, was taken alive early Tuesday morning by Clifford “Tip” McFadden at his farm west of Marion. Mrs. McFadden and 4-year-old Marissa brought Josephus to town for children at Bown-Corby School to see and have their pictures taken with. He then was lent to Pete Schambron to display at his Skelly service station “zoo” across from Central Park.

“Constant Marion,” a junior yearling Poland China boar, won grand champion honors last week at Kansas State Fair. He was entered and shown by Jos. W. Dvorak, who is pictured with the 700-pound champion.

Mrs. Otto Riffel, Lincolnville, missed $50 at Wednesday’s Cash Day drawing. Mrs. Chris Christensen, Marion, received $5. Mrs. Ernest Bina, Marion, also received $5.

Bishop Leo C. Bryne conferred the Holy Order of Priesthood on Paul Oborny Saturday morning at St. John’s Catholic Church in El Dorado. Father Oborny celebrated his first Mass Sunday morning at St. John Nepomucene Church at Pilsen.
