Paul Morse, Marion’s city clerk, has resigned effective Sept. 6, according to Ira Newcomer, mayor. Morse, a 1956 graduate of Marion High School, has decided to go back to college. He will live in Marion, drive a school bus mornings and evenings, and attend Tabor College at Hillsboro during the day.

Announcement is made this week that Mr. and Mrs. Will Helmer have purchased the Dairy Queen store from Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Schimpf. The Helmers will take over operation Sept. 1.

Three finalists in the Marion County Fair Queen contest who will reign over the fair this week are Elaine Klassen of Hillsboro, Margene Savage of Florence, and Roetta Cornelsen of Hillsboro.

Another Main St. improvement installed this week is a new metal awning over Beaston’s Market. It is a marquee type and adds a modern appearance to the newly painted building.

Anita Faye Hett celebrated her 11th birthday Tuesday afternoon at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Hett. Guests spent the afternoon playing Bunko, after which refreshments of birthday cake, ice cream, and Kool-Aid were served. Guests present included Gena Broz, Vickie Klassen, Rita Kreutziger, Rita Stika, and Patsy Wood.
