The annual Cottonwood Valley Poultry Barbecue and Jamboree will be Jan. 31 in Marion. A feature started last year was selection of a district poultry queen. Entries are being accepted for this year’s title. District winner last year was Cynthia Batt of Florence, who was chosen from among 10 entrants from the several counties in the district.

Two ministers assumed new duties here last week. William Staub is the new pastor of the Marion-Peabody parish of the Presbyterian Church, and Winston Worden is the new minister at Marion Christian Church.

The Jan. 10 meeting of James William Miesse Post of the American Legion was a special one. Ten men who have held continuous membership since the group’s inception in 1919 were honored. They were Cecil Bruner, Alex H. Case, E.L. Cavanah, John Ely, Jay E. Hargett, Alfred Kirchner, Earl L. Kreuter, Charles J. Mehl, M.J. Petersen, and Ollie Wight.

The nine members of the Marion Industrial Development, Inc. entertained their wives at a steak dinner last Sunday. Those in attendance were the T.C. Enseys, Ed Navrats, Bob Brookses, L.L. Hadsells, E.K. Schroeders, Homer Stenzels, Arthur Schmerseys, Roger Morses, and W.M. Pierces.

Trooper Rex Clothier of Kansas Highway Patrol was featured speaker Monday at a noon luncheon of Marion Kiwanis.
