Prize winners in the kids’ division of the second big night opening of Marion stores last Friday night were Steven Widler, who won a bicycle, and Monte Magathan and Kathy Weigart, each of whom received a camera. Bobby Maloun won a basketball, and Linda Anderson received a doll. Adult winners were Ruth Hobson, $50, and Harold McKibben, $5.
An operetta, “Christmas Carol,” will be presented Dec. 20 by Marion Elementary fifth and sixth graders. Main parts will be played by Bryce Ollenberger, Jan Herrick, Jimmy Swann, Kenny Hoffman, Mary Beth Kjellin, Beverly Hoch, Maurita Deines, and Joyce Ford.
The Associated Press this week announced that University of Kansas sophomore Ronald Oelschlager, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Oelschlager of Marion, has been named to the all-academic football team of the Big Eight conference. Oelschlager, a halfback, was the only Kansas player selected.
Winston L. Worden of Augusta will be the new minister of Marion Christian Church beginning Jan. 13.
Dear Santa:
I’ve been a nice boy so I want something for Christmas, and I want something special. A dirt-moving machine, some new tools and extension cord cause Daddy’s always stealing mine, especially the screwdrivers. And, a gun you think would be right for me.
