Again this week, considerable oil activity is reported with around 100 barrels of new pumping potential logged for Marion County. Three new Mississippian chat wells in the Lost Springs field have added most of the oil.

Mary Westerhaus and Carmen Hayen are pictured receiving piano lessons at a summer music camp at Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia,

On display in our office this week are two huge cucumbers. One, from Sherman Marler, weighs more than 2½ pounds and is 11 inches long and 10 inches around. The other, from Henry Yakel, is just short of 4 pounds — almost in the watermelon class. There also is a 1-pound tomato, 5 inches in diameter and 13½ inches in circumference, from Mrs. Wm. Ollenberger. And finally, there’s a big basketful of roasting ears from Ed Waner of west of Florence.

Those at a birthday party honoring Jean May’s sixth birthday included Sharon Anderson, Barbara Boyle, Cheryl Break, Cindy Weinheimer, Carol Holt, Linda Miller, Martha Beaston, Diana Case, Ginger Lentz, and Sandra Marler.

Winners in this week’s Cash Day drawing are Jack Williams of Marion, who received $15; Warren Olson of Lincolnville, $20; and Albert Meirowsky of Peabody, $15. Not present were Darlene Gutsch of Lincolnville, who missed $200, and Phyllis Turk of Marion, who missed $5.
