County Engineer James F. Meisner announced this week that approval has been granted by both the federal and state bureaus of roads to replace the “Red Bridge” or “Ehrlich bridge” which spans Clear Creek just north of Marion on the Cedar Street road.

All teachers in the Marion school system will get an “across the board” raise next year, if they return to teach here. The board of education voted Monday night to raise the base of the salary schedule from $4,800 to $5,000.

Patrons of the Centre Unified School District No. 397 living in the former Lincolnville, Burdick, and Ramona grade school districts will have the opportunity of voting on whether or not they want to close their attendance centers.

Cathy Palmer, Marion High School’s winner in the Betty Crocker search for the American Homemaker of Tomorrow, has been selected as one of the 10 highest ranking girls in Kansas. Cathy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Palmer and a member of Marion’s 1967 senior class.

The entire inventory, office supplies, parts, and repair equipment of Powell Motor Co. will be sold at public auction this Saturday. The sale is being conducted by an auction company. Everything goes to the bare walls, Les Powell, former Marion Dodge dealer says.

Four families from Marion took part in the big “Polar Bear Camp-out” at Lake Shawnee near Topeka over the weekend. They were the Eugene Enos, Richard Bredemeier, Bill Holmes, and Norman Plenert families. Over 150 camper-trailer units were at the camp with over 500 people in attendance.

The fourth annual Santa Fe Railroad student education tour to Six Flags Over Texas situated between Dallas and Fort Worth will be conducted May 5 through 7. All students in Marion County are invited to go. The cost is nominal with transportation, meals, and admissions all paid in a single price.
