A special dispatch to the RECORD this week from the North Pole brings the good news that Santa Claus has planned a visit to Marion this Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

Martin Bina, well-known young man of the Pilsen community, has purchased Wayne’s Barber Shop in Marion. He will take over operation of the shop on Dec. 27. Wayne Schroeder has purchased Vernon’s Barber Shop in Hillsboro. He will start operating the Hillsboro shop on Jan. 3.

Winners in the third “Kids Drawing” Thursday evening were Larry Baxter, who won the first prize, a bicycle; Kathy Weigart received a doll; Judy Tajchman, a doll; Melody Meier, a wrist watch; and Margaret Cox, a big teddy bear.

Marion school bus drivers undertook a new activity last week — they set up and trimmed a giant Christmas tree at Marion Elementary School. The five drivers were Bob Ehrlich, June Jost, Kenneth McGranor, Harold Seibel, and Charles Winkley.

LaVonda Hett won top prize in the black and white print division of the recent “Shutterbug” contest held this fall in Wichita. LaVonda was one of 26 photographic models. The photogenic Marion High senior is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hett and has taken special modeling training at a Wichita studio.

The local town basketball team, sometimes known as “Marion Mashers” will play the Florence “Wildcats” Saturday night to be played in the Marion “Loud House” (high school gym). Team members are Tom Shirley, Jay Jost, Boyce Baumgardner, Don Druse, Jim Link, Dave Deutschendorf, and Gerry Harris.
