Mayor Peggy Blackman announced Marion is a Pride Pacemaker City during Monday evening’s regular meeting of the city commission. Marion is the ninth community in Kansas to be so designated.

The subject of this week’s Personality Profile is Roger Morse, who returned to Marion in the 1940s to enter the practice of law.

Another popular dinner-theatre production of the Marion County Arts Council will be in February when Mud Creek Company will stage two one-act plays.

Three students from the area are members of the Emporia State University Madrigal Singers participating in the Olde Englishes Feaste at the E-State Union. They are Rosella Plenert of Marion, Cheryl Robinson of Florence, and Jayma Stotts of Hillsboro.

John Carlin, speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives, visited Marion in anticipation of his campaign for governor. He met with county editors for lunch in the Owl Car Café, discussed issues, and speculated on the future.

JoAnn Good, foreign language instructor at Hillsboro High School, attended annual meetings of two German teachers organizations over the Thanksgiving holiday in San Francisco.
