Kathryn Schimpf was sworn in Tuesday morning to begin her seventh term as county treasurer.

Policeman Joe Caulk was suspended Monday pending outcome of a hearing in district court. Caulk was arrested Friday on suspicion of child abuse. He allegedly physically abused a boy living in his custody.

A picture and story in this issue tells of the former home of Judge H.A. Billings, originally built on S. Lincoln St. where the high school gymnasium stands and now located at 312 S. Roosevelt St.

O’Ruth Petterson, Wichita, announces the engagement of her daughter, Kathy, to Brad Backhus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Backhus, Tampa. The couple has chosen Jan. 7 as their wedding date.

Members of the David Helmer Sr. family gathered in Marion. It was the first time the entire family had been together in 15 years.

Marion’s Marching Warriors band took part in the annual Band Day at Kansas State University. Pictured holding a Warrior banner are Annette Nienstedt and Donna Stovall along with Donna Sherbert, band director Jean Ney, Bev Bezdek, and KSU band director Phil Hewett.
