First Federal Savings branch office in Marion opened officially Monday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of the building at 230 E. Main St.

A Jaycees chapter has been organized in Marion with 23 charter members. Paul Swan is president, Doug Marler internal vice president, George Jackson external vice president, Steve Widler state director, and Wayne Winter secretary-treasurer.

Marion’s first female mayor took over the duties of her office Monday afternoon at city commission meeting. Outgoing mayor Jack Regnier was present to give his keys and official papers to mayor Peggy Blackman. She also was welcomed by commissioners Bud Pierce and Lester Henderson, along with city attorney D.W. Wheeler, city clerk Lucille Britain, and city superintendent Junior Bredemeier.

Senior Girl Scouts from the Flint Hills Girl Scout council left April 6 for New York City. Those taking the trip were Kay Blackman, Ann Christensen, Barbara Costello, Brenda Friesen, Cindy Harris, Tami Robertson, Jeannie Wildin, and Margaret Wilson.

Gail Regier and Carol Ehrlich served as pages for Rep. Pascal Roniger last Wednesday in the state Capitol at Topeka. Gail’s parents are the Herb Regiers and Carol’s are the J.C. Ehrlichs.
