Marion merchants will kick off the holiday season Sunday with an afternoon of Christmas activities along Main Street. The festivities begin at 1 p.m.

There will be a special visit from Santa Claus and Christmas decorations along Main Street and in Central Park will be lighted, according to Marlin Buchholz, chairman for the event.

Four people were treated at area hospitals for minor pellet wounds during this opening week of hunting season. None of the victims was injured seriously but some sustained head wounds in the accidents.

The first victim received 32 pellets to his hand, face, and chest in Chase County. A day earlier, a man was wounded in his left hand and leg north of Ramona. He received from 10 to 20 pellets from the blast. Two men were shot in the Tampa area Nov. 14. One man lost the tip of his finger and the other had wounds to his hand, head, and face.

Hillsboro will conduct a tour of Holiday Homes Dec. 6. Admission will be by donation of $3 toward emergency room equipment at Salem Hospital.

Homes to be visited include those of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Heuback, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Whitman, Mr. and Mrs. Vincent Driver, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Hett, and Mr. and Mrs. Brent Boring.

The meal, sponsored and prepared by members of the Marion Chamber of Commerce for the Farm-City Steak Fry included a hefty steak, buttered bread, potato chips, drink, and celery.

In all, the workers turned out 540 steaks in less than 90 minutes.
