A ribs or chicken barbecue will be held Memorial Day at Ecker-Fulkerson-Slifer VFW Post Home to raise funds to construct a memorial to honor those killed in World War II. Foods will be prepared by “King Harold J” of Junction City.

Dick Varenhorst is the subject of this week’s Personality Profile. Varenhorst has spent years of his relatively short life pursuing a career in the theater. Back in Marion at present, he has been absorbed into the Special Events Division of Marion Community Arts Council and the PRIDE program, along with local theatrical groups.

Gene Winkler was seen pointing out a low spot to tractor driver Harlow Warneke at Marion Country Club Friday. Winkler and Warneke were among over 15 volunteers who donated time for construction of a new golf cart shed.

Three Marion High School students received special recognition Tuesday night during commencement exercises at Marion Gymnasium when they were awarded certificates for academic excellence.

Paul Loney and Ron Wineinger were named co-valedictorians and Greg Boyle was introduced as salutatorian. All three young men qualified for ACT scholarships due to their high scores in that testing program.

Jack Webb and Bill Drummond won the Marion Country Club’s two-man best-ball handicap tournament Sunday with a 12 under par 60. Don and Bob Druse finished second with 61 and Leo Blackman and Ed Costello were third with 63,

Six students from Marion will receive diplomas May 24 from Tabor College in Hillsboro. Graduates are Greg Regier, Jarvis Seaman, Ann Christensen, Carol Regier, Sue Harris, and Rose Vinduska.
