Marion Chamber of Commerce’s third annual July Jamboree is Saturday. The carnival atmosphere on Main Street promises games, refreshments, and bargains galore, climaxing at 9 p.m. with free fun-filled family movies in Central Park at dark.

The Meierhoff garden in Jex Addition is one of the most productive in town and the envy of less energetic folks, who marvel at the produce Ernie gets from his ground. One reason Ernie has such success, other than effort, is the good supply of water from his windmill-driven well.

Among early entries in the Herington Junior Miss competition July 20 and 21 are Gena Helmer and Jan Nuss of Marion and Kim Schaffer of Florence.

Jamie Shirley and Linda Williams were voted to the all-star team of 10 players at the University of Kansas Basketball Camp for Girls June 19-July 4. Shirley also won the trophy for “Outstanding Jayhawk Camper.”

“Fifty Years of Family Fun” will be the theme for the 50th annual Marion County Fair parade on Aug. 28. The theme was submitted by Virgil Peters of Hillsboro in a contest to decide on a name for the parade. Peters received a complete set of tickets to grandstand events.
