Santa parked his sleigh on the roof of Bob Brookens’ law office Sunday and dismounted to the street to hear the Christmas wishes of the children assembled to talk to him.

According to Noreen Weems, Marion County emergency preparedness director, community nuclear attack shelters have been designated for the county in a crisis relocation and community shelter plan recently approved by the Kansas Emergency Preparedness Division.

Tena Maggard, Marion, won the $50 first place prize Sunday during the first in a series of drawing to be held during Marion’s annual Christmas celebration. Esther Sanders of Marion was winner of the $10 fourth-place drawing. Total cash prizes amount to $200 a week.

Featured in this week’s Personality Profile is Margaret Shapley who, 30 years after being stricken with polio in 1949, found movement restricted to her neck and head and has converted her life into full days of usefulness for herself and those about her.

Student council members are sponsoring a taco feed and “Sadie Hawkins” dance Saturday at Marion High School.
