Leslie Ann Brewer was the first baby born in 1994 at St. Luke Hospital. An 8-pound 3½-ounce girl, she was born Monday. Her parents are Byron and Janell Brewer of Wichita.

Mike Iuen and Todd Johnson, KAKE’s “Good Morning Kansas” host and weather anchor, will be guest speakers for the annual Marion Chamber of Commerce dinner Jan. 24 in the parish hall of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

Homecoming activities are planned Friday at Centre High School. Candidates are Matt Clymer, David Miller, Travis Rindt, David Zinn, Angela Kaiser, Kelly Lueker, Linnea Meek, and Toni Nemechek.

This week’s article by Amy Smith concerning someone who made a difference is about Ray Vinduska, Marion’s postmaster for 16 years.

Marion High School’s girls basketball team racked up its first victory of the season Friday, defeating Herington, 56-37. Katrina Hancock had 22 points to lead Marion. Jodi Thomas had 10 points, hitting eight of 10 from the line. Julie Weber also had 10 points.

Stephanie Burkholder of Marion has been named to the dean’s honor roll for the 1993 fall semester in the University of Kansas occupational therapy education department.
