Groundwork and foundations are underway at Marion Elementary School, where a new physical education building will go up north of the school. Most of the evergreens on the school grounds will be removed, replaced by sidewalks and diagonal parking slots for staff members and parents.

At the group’s regular meeting Friday noon, Cleo Loomis told Marion Chamber of Commerce members about her recent trip to Africa.

Developers of a proposed apartment complex in Marion have asked the city for a change in zoning on some vacant lots on E. Main St. If the zoning change is approved, the apartment complex will be located just west of Marion Country Club on the south side of E. Main St.

A six-color screen printer recently was installed at Hoppy Line, Marion. The printer can put six colors on more than 500 T-shirts an hour. Jim Crofoot, Western Associates official, took Marion Kiwanis Club members on a tour of the plant Monday.

Births announced in this issue were those of Adam Alton Matz, March 18; Alexis Nicole Cain, March 21; and Austin James Bucher, March 22.

An article by contributing writer Margo Yates tells how Phyllis Melton for almost 40 years has been collecting pie-top designs. She has gathered 300 index cards with the designs diagrammed inside a circle she has printed on the cards.
