Herb Bartel, a 1953 Marion High School graduate with 24 years of planning experience, has been hired as Marion County public health sanitarian, emergency preparedness coordinator, and planning commission coordinator.
The musical-comedy “Grease” will be performed by Marion High School students Friday and Saturday in Marion Municipal Auditorium. Leads Danny Suko and Sandy Dumbrowski are played by Sam Petersen and Lori Tice.
A quote in this issue: “Marion has the best people, the nicest people, in the United States,” said Ed Koch, German organizer of tours in the United States by German students. “Walk the Central Park in Marion and the Central Park in New York City, and you’ll see what I mean.”
A “come and go” shower complimenting Amy Wirtz was Saturday at Unique Designs. Hostesses were Betty Stenzel, Karen Miles, and Cheryl Martinez.
Barbara Steiner of Marion has been credited with saving lives this weekend in Kokomo, Indiana. Steiner and her cousin, Janea Stroup of Kokomo, were walking near a raging stream when they saw four men who nearly drowned after their rafts turned over. The two women and a fifth man from another raft used a tree branch to reach the men and pull them close to the creek side, where they were finally pulled to safety.
