Marion County Commission agreed Friday to enter negotiations with KC Development of Marion to provide transfer station services for county residents and businesses.

Warren Hinrichs of Spokane, Washington, is pictured as he re-paints the flag pole at the post office and the courthouse in Marion. Hinrichs has been climbing flag poles for 37 years, and his father did it before him. The job is repeated every three years. Hinrichs travels the entire nation and say he get a “good view of the country” in his work.

Several Marion High School graduates are members of the 1996 Emporia State University football team. They are Aaron Reiswig, Bill Griffith, Chuck Maggard, and Jason Wheeler. Wheeler is projected as a probably starter in Saturday’s game with Wayne State.

An article by staff writer Rowena Plett tells that Ruth Dohner, resident of the month at Hilltop Manor, is truly an “old settler.”

Born March 6, 1906, at the family home in Marion, Ruth is the fourth in a family of four daughters and six sons. She has a son Ralph, a daughter Rosalie, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
