Ground was broken this week for a new Casey’s General Store at 1020 East Main in Marion. The store is scheduled to be open in January.

Jane Makovec is resident of the month at Hilltop Manor. She has been living there since August 1985. “I just live here,” Jane said. I don’t have to worry about anything and I can sit in the privacy of my backyard and enjoy the fresh air.”

In what was termed an “across the board” pay raise, Marion County Commission granted a $35 per month hike in pay for all employees except themselves.

A special service will be held Sunday at the Marion Presbyterian Church to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the receiving of the charter to establish a Presbyterian congregation in Marion.

Two Cougars from Centre High School, Nick Evancho and Kelly Wonser, have been selected to play in the 11th annual Kansas 8-man all-star football game to be held Saturday in Beloit.

Ern Hett’s Copper Shed, south of Marion, was featured in an article in the recently published travel and leisure section that appeared in several Kansas City area newspapers.

The former Marion Municipal Power Plant building has been sold by the City of Marion to K.C. Development. Plans are to convert the building to become a solid waste transfer station.

Trash trucks will enter from the south, dump inside where trash will be compacted and loaded into larger trucks for transport to a regional landfill. Trucks will exit the building on the north side according to company owners Rex Savage and Theo Bond.

Cottonwood Valley 13-year-old all-stars won the District IV Tournament this weekend and move on to the state tournament at Pittsburg this weekend.

Players include Jamey Cooper, Chase Freeborn, and Tyrell Becker of Marion, Jeremy Loewen and Mike Hagen of Hillsboro, Jeremy Scheffler of Peabody, and Ryan Hayes and Don Cox of Council Grove.
