The third annual Turkey Daze celebration is Saturday in downtown Marion. The turkey toss will feature paper plates tossed from the roof of downtown buildings. Each plate will have a prize or discount marked on it. Participants will be separated by age.

Marion County Commissioners signed on Monday a contract with Community Resource Service of Marion to administer the state grant to make the courthouse fully accessible.

The undefeated Centre High School football team moves to sub-state with a 31-30 overtime victory Saturday over Mankato. The Cougars host Little River Friday for the sub-state title. Centre, an eight-man Division 1 team, is the only Marion County football team still in a playoff hunt.

Chamber of Commerce president Jerry Cady cut the ribbon Friday at Straub International in Marion. Straub held an inventory reduction auction and free pancake and sausage feed in conjunction with its formal grand opening.

An article by Rowena Plett features Oliver Peterson of Burdick whose name isn’t often read in the newspaper but who is greatly appreciated by the people of his community. Peterson recently received a 65-year pin for continuous membership in the Marion Masonic Lodge.

Chat ‘n’ Dine Club at Marion County Lake will again host its annual chili/soup dinner and arts and crafts festival Saturday at the lake hall. The event is traditionally held the first day of hunting season.
