The Christmas Decorating Committee of Marion Chamber of Commerce is again offering clear lights for holiday decorating by businesses and residences in Marion. Those interested should contact the chamber’s office as soon as possible.

The third annual Turkey Daze celebration will be held Nov. 11 in downtown Marion.

Pastor Wes Just will be honored with a reception Sunday at Whitewater Center Church. He is retiring after being pastor at the non-denominational community church six miles west of Burns for the past 30 years.

Florence Middle School students who maintain good grades and good citizenship are eligible for weekly incentive awards. Recent winners include Jenny Lundgren, Josh Bryant, Steven Janzen, Heather Tajchman, and Sarah Goodin.

Santa Fe Trail historian John Dick used a megaphone to communicate with the 80 or more participants who visited Santa Fe Trail sites Oct. 22. Deep swales left by thousands of wagons are visible in portions of Marion County.

The local Cottonwood Crossing chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association will host several events this June as part of the 175th anniversary of the trail’s founding.

Surviving charter members, former members, former ministers, and many friends are expected to join the congregation of the First Mennonite Church of Burns Sunday to commemorate 50 years of service to the community.
