Luci Helmer and Sharon Kelsey, both of Marion, have the distinction of being the first to receive associate degrees by attending all their classes at Marion. They graduated with honors from Butler County Community College, but took all their classes at Butler of Marion.

Area residents toured the Binney & Smith Crayola factory in Winfield and the Chaplin Nature Center in Arkansas City June 1 on a trip sponsored by Marion–Florence REC.

Participants were Margo and Michael Yates, JoAnna McGinness, Scott Nuss, Ann and Andy Holt, Shayla Steele, Lavonne and Jill Hannaford, Margaret and Ashlee Pickering, and Belinda Skiles.

A feature article tells of Charles Victor Faust of Marion, who is a Major League baseball’s first and only off-the-field legend. He’s in the Encyclopedia of Baseball even though he only pitched two innings, made two hits, had a 0-0 record, and an ERA of 4.5.
