When Marion City Commission met Monday with Jack Regnier presiding, it marked the first time in six years that Gerry Harris wasn’t at the helm of Marion city government. In fact, it marks the first time in 18 years that he hasn’t held an elective office in Marion.

Eickleberry Excavating crews are pictured as the pour curb and gutter Friday on Welch Street alongside Our Savior Lutheran Church. The block of Welch by the church is not paved but will be so as part of the city’s long-range plan of street improvements.

A proposal to offer boys’ baseball and girls’ softball each spring topped a long agenda Monday at the Marion Unified School District board of education.

Administrators said they are also waiting to hear from another group of parents and students wanting to add wrestling as a winter sport.

Florence Middle School students Carrie Darrow and Sarah Crofoot gained valuable experience April 7 when they served as pages for Sen. Don. Steffes. They are pictured with Sen. Steffes and Gov. Bill Graves in the governor’s office.

Andy Methvin, a freshman at Centre High School, has qualified for the state contest in History Day competition to be held May 6 in Abilene.
