Jim and Debra Whitfill have withdrawn their request to operate a café, cabins, and boat rentals at Marion County Lake because of a state statute imposing a one-year limit of leasing public property to private enterprises. The Whitfills aren’t willing to invest in the property unless their lease could be for several years.
Fire caused substantial damage Monday afternoon to the home of Mike and Patsy Kline at 102 E. Santa Fe St.
Lori Lalouette of Marion earned two Excellence for the Future awards during the fall 2007 semester at Washburn University Law School. The award is presented to the student with the highest grade in the class and is designated as a “top paper” on the student’s academic transcript.
Four Marion Junior Wrestling Club members qualified for a state tournament this weekend at Topeka’s Expo Center by finishing in the top four of their respective weight classes. They are Brody Carroll, Colton Jeffrey, Andy Shipman, and Cody Wildin.
Marion city employees and volunteers will begin installing new playground equipment at Central Park. A total of $58,850 has been raised the project. That’s $11,160 short of the minimum need to complete it.
