With the departure of the two top leaders of the county road and bridge department, four longtime employees were appointed Friday to manage the department until the positions are filled. Beverly Cooper, Dennis Maggard, Tom Holub, and Gary Williams will oversee day-to-day operations until the vacant positions are filled.

The 1963 Durham High School basketball coach and team will be inducted Aug. 1 into the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame.

Pictured is a group of girls — Erika Hess, Alyssa Edwards, Katey Ehrlich, Megan Richmond, and Kelli Hess — as they visit Marion Historical Museum. They went into the museum’s school room and giggled as they pointed out pictures of their parents among the graduation classes on display. One girl said her grandfather’s picture also was on display. Curator Cynthia Blount said young people frequently stop at the museum during the summer.

Prairie Rose Wranglers will be the featured entertainment at this year’s Florence Labor Day celebration.
