Noreen Weems is retiring this month as director of the Marion County Department for Elderly. Weems has served almost 27 years. Before that, she served seven years as director of Marion County emergency preparedness.
The Marion trio of Bill Lundy, Aaron Hett, and Nicholas Hett won an American Legion golf tournament April 28 at Marion Country Club.
Judy Christensen, president of Marion Lions Club, received the Melvin Jones Fellow award at Thursday’s meeting of the local club. Jones founded Lions Clubs International.
Former Marion High School standout basketball player Jared Hett has signed a letter of intent to play next fall at Tabor College. Hett will transfer from Emporia State University and will be a junior when he begins playing with the Bluejays. His parents are Gary and Jo Hett of Marion.
A feature story and picture in this issue tells of owner Tamara Christiansen, who recently opened her shop, PLANTations, with help from good friend Darla Gore. Fresh flowers, plants, and unusual items are offered at the downtown Marion shop.
Bertie Pritz is the new queen of Take Off Pounds Sensibly in Marion, and Lou Roberts is runner-up. The two women lost a total of 73½ pounds over 10 or 11 years to reach their weight goals.
