It was a night of upsets where two incumbent candidates lost to opponents. Marion mayoral candidate Mary Olson soundly defeated incumbent mayor Martin Tice and Hillsboro City Council east ward candidate Shane Marler defeated incumbent councilman Matt Hiebert.

Roger “Bud” Hannaford was recognized Monday by Marion Kiwanis Club with a Hixson Award for nearly 45 years of service.

The first event planned by Marion County Community Theatre Company will be a variety show April 14 in Marion Auditorium, 203 N. 3rd St., Marion. Marion County residents will provide a variety of entertainment. Included will be Kelsey Unruh and her band from Hillsboro, drummer Joel Zeiner of Marion, singer-songwriter Barbara Anderson of Burns, and the Green Horns with band members from Goessel.

Chinga the Ballerina rhino at Feebie Holdeman’s insurance office is all decked out for Easter with bunny ears and tail and an Easter bonnet. This cutie was selected as the winner of a recent holiday contest.

Children had the opportunity for a hands-on story-time Friday at Marion City Library. Westin McFall, Tristan Armstrong, Keighlee Armstrong, Jonathan Spachek, Kelly Soyez, and Campbell Winter got to pet a lamb brought to the library by Brenda Soyez.
