March came in like a lamb.

The legislative per diem stopped last Wednesday, and not even the desire of the honorable members to hear themselves talk can induce them to stay in session longer than to-day or to-morrow.

The “break up” Saturday was immense. The snow rapidly disappeared, and the streams were on a high all day and night.

We have received a communication from Florence, vindicatory of Prof. Crighton, late Principal of the public school there, who was tried there last week on the charge of cruelty to an adopted boy, and acquitted. The article would make, probably, a column and a half, and we can not spare space for it. Prof. Crighton has been fully vindicated by the law, and his abilities as a teacher stand unimpeached.

We learn that Mr. Morgan, of the Peabody Gazette, has sold his Osage City Free Press to Capt. J.V. Admire, an old newspaper man. We presume this gives Mr. Morgan wholly to Marion county. If so, we welcome him.

Justice Costello, of this city, was called to Florence, last week, to help adorn the magisterial bench in an important criminal suit.

Joaquin Marrkeiro and his wife, of Cabaceiras City, Brazil, are aged respectively one hundred and three and ninety-seven. They contemplate celebrating the eightieth anniversary of their wedding soon. Of the twenty-three children born to this aged pair, fourteen still survive. One hundred and twenty-six grandchildren and ninety-seven great-grandchildren will attend the wedding anniversary.
