Patrol officer Sarah Alam is the newest addition to the Marion Police Department, bringing the total number of full time officers to four. Alam brings specified experience in crime scene documentation and photography to the department, as well as experience working with domestic violence and sexual assault cases.

A team of third- and fourth-grade Centre Elementary School students is teaching adults how to use the iPad in an educational setting. They are Braxton Smith, Jensen Riffel, Kara Riffel, Elias Jirak, Jennea Remmers, Emma David, and Lane Methvin.

Accompanied by Principal Jerri Kemble and instructors Candace Tajchman and Jean Brunner, they have presented at a staff development workshop in the DeSoto school district near Kansas City, to the Domestic Science Club and at the TEEN Mashup in Herington, and to teachers from other school districts.

Marion High School basketball players Jordan Hett and Jacob Harper earned selection to the post season Heart of America League first team.

Progress continues with repair of damaged greens at the Marion Country Club golf course, with expectations seven greens will be rehabilitated and ready for use by April 1. Two separate events last year ravaged the greens, creating huge barren areas that made the greens unusable.

Art Mueller and Lucille Bredemeier were elected St. Luke Living Center Valentine’s Day King and Queen.

Happy Hustlers 4-H reading project members Larry Zieammermann, Charlie Nordquist, and Hap Weddell, display a box full of donated books Friday at Carlsons’ Grocery. The club is conducting a book drive to benefit “Ethiopia Reads,” an organization dedicated to improving literacy in the African country.
