Plans are being made for the annual Thanksgiving Day dinner. A traditional dinner will be served noon to 1:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day at Marion Middle/High School Commons. Marion Ministerial Alliance sponsors the event with assistance from community volunteers.

Peabody Main Street Association is offering a $200 top prize in a talent show Oct. 31 at Peabody American Legion. The event is the final act in the third annual Sleepy Creek Concert Series hosted by the organization.

Marion High School students Patrick Hodson and Dane Purkeypile have been named Commended Students in the 2011 National Merit Scholarship program. Commended students placed among the top 5 percent of the more than 1.5 million students nationwide who entered the competition.

Tom Duggan of Tampa recently participated in the 28th annual Kansas Silver-Haired Legislature as a Marion County delegate.

Junior Cole Lewman is the Marion County Record’s MHS Athlete of the Week. Lewman had two receptions and a touchdown against Hutchinson Trinity. He leapt above a defender to secure a 34-yard touchdown catch in the end zone for the Warriors’ only score.

Members of the Collett, Hayen, and Umberger families held a three-day reunion Sept. 24 through 26 in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the Colletts coming to the Middle Creek area from London via Quebec.
