Challenger Roger K. Fleming won in a landslide over incumbent Marion County Commissioner Bob Hein in the Republican primary Tuesday. Meanwhile Rep. J. Robert Brookens successfully defended his position against challenger Cheryl Green.

Retired art teacher Jan Davis is converting a building on East Main Street into Gallery 101 of the Flint Hills. She is hoping to have the gallery open by Sept. 18 for Art in the Park.

“There’s No Place Like Burdick” will be the theme for the 38th annual Burdick Labor Day celebration Sept. 5 and 6.

Robert Marshall, 63, who was a band instructor in Peabody-Burns schools for 22 years, died July 28 at his home Peabody.
