Marion County native Doug Kjellin was hired Monday evening by Marion City Council as the city’s economic development director. Kjellin and his family recently moved to Marion from McPherson.

An estimated 700 people filled the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church sanctuary and basement to observe the official opening of the “Cause for the beatification and canonization of Father Emil Joseph Kapaun.”

Four generations of a Marion family give blood regularly when the American Red Cross bloodmobile comes to town. Monday was no exception. The number of Marion County Emergency Medical Services ambulance runs in May was 21 transfers, 19 medical emergencies and no transports, 13 motor vehicle accidents and falls, 11 standbys, 7 cardiac, three code black (deaths), and one turn-around. Goessel and Lincolnville first responders each had three runs and Durham first responders had two. Marion rescue unit answered two calls and Florence had one.
