August 25, 1921

Word has been received from the Government that the body of James William Miesse, son of Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Miesse and soldier who died in action in France and for whom the local Post of the American Legion was named, will arrive in Hoboken, probably today. The body will be brought here for burial but it is yet impossible to announce the definite date.

An auto train of boosters are here this noon advertising the Harvey County semi-centennial celebration. The event commemorates the fiftieth anniversary of the settling of Harvey County.

Little Margaret Schafer of the Canada neighborhood has been the guest several days this week of Miss Clara Duncan and on Monday evening they, with Josephine Bess Rogers and Maxine Minton, enjoyed a picnic supper in the park.

Mr. August Bauer is the owner of a new Essex.

Two stores were robbed at Hillsboro last night. Thieves took all the silks in the Suderman and Harms store. More than a thousand dollars worth of material was taken. The same thieves, presumably, forced the back door of Cornelson’s store next to Suderman’s and took a lot of ivory goods, toilet articles, etc.

Hon. and Mrs. Henderson S. Martin are here from Lawrence on business and visiting the former’s father, Mr. Western Martin and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. George Haupt drove over from Peabody Monday, coming to bring her two daughters, Misses Edith and Mary Haupt, and her niece, Miss Edna Freeman, to attend Institute.

Western Martin has been marketing fine Ponderosa tomatoes that average a pound each, some weighing as high as a pound and a half.
