The town has been without light and water since early in the week. Even though we have delayed publication of the Record a half day, there is still much news matter which we have been unable to get into type by the old hand set method.

The shut down at the power plant has caused much inconvenience, but of more importance, has been very costly to business and professional men whose business depends upon the electric current and the water.

However only praise can be expressed of the engineers at the plant who have been putting in as much as thirty-six consecutive hours of work under the nerve strain in the attempt to make the engines start. The small unit is now running and the large one is expected to be operating late this morning.

The three little daughters of J.F. Vaughn, west of town, who are at Newton with their aunt and attending school, have been having a siege of measles.

“Farewell Sunday” will be observed next Sunday at the Christian Church and it is desirable that every member be present to bid farewell to the old church building where many pleasures as well as many sorrows have been your experience. 250 is the goal set for Sunday attendance.

The bad piece of road at the new bridge south of town is being improved this week. A great amount of crushed rock is being hauled and this will be covered with cinders.

Woodcutting seems to be the principal occupation in these parts at present. N.L. Olsen and son, Earl, Nathan Smith and son, Owen, Geo. Penland and sons have all been working to lay up a large supply of fuel. N.P. Nelson has been cutting hedge on his father’s place and Norman Hett has been doing ditto on his father’s place. George Richmond is cutting wood on the Willie Olsen place.
