Memorial Day

To the editor:

A big thank you goes to the two people responsible for the last-minute memorial service at the cemetery. It was appreciated by the 20-plus people who attended.

When I realized that Marion was not having a Memorial Day service, I was shocked but more disgusted at the leaders of my hometown be it city council, ministerial alliance, Kiwanis, military organizations, etc.

My husband, a 30-year veteran in the Marine Corps, came home to his family after defending our country, our town. In Arlington National Cemetery, there are more than 400,000 service personnel who never returned to their families.

Citizens of Marion, is it asking too much to honor these heroes and their families one day a year? Hillsboro, Peabody, Florence, Lincolnville, Burdick, Burns, Ramona, and Pilsen answered the call to honor the fallen.

Marion wasn’t “The Best Place I’ve Seen” on Memorial Day.
