Melvin Watkins

Services will be scheduled later at Fort Scott National Cemetery and in the Santa Fe Room of Marion City Library for Melvin Magellan Watkins, 83, who died Nov. 23 at his home in Pilsen.

Born Nov. 12, 1939, in Minneapolis, Kansas, to Raymond and Gladys (Lott) Watkins, he married Joan Kaye Pierce on March 28, 1958, in Wichita.

She survives along with daughter Debra K. Steele of Pilsen, sister Marilyn Kay Jones of Marion County Lake, six grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Brothers Raymond Howard Watkins I, Raymond Howard Watkins II, Michael Jon Watkins, and Marvin Watkins preceded him in death.

Memorials have been established with Hillsboro American Legion Post and Marion City Library.
