Devon McGonigal is Peabody Boy Scouts Troop 108’s newest Eagle Scout. On April 28, McGonigal was presented the Eagle Scout award at a ceremony at First Baptist Church in Peabody.
Eagle Scout Ken Parry presided over the ceremony. Troop 108 Scoutmaster Carol Smith presented McGonigal with the award.
McGonigal had his Eagle Scout board of review in January. Prior to that, McGonigal had to earn all the rank badges — scout, tenderfoot, second class, first class, star, and life. In addition to earning the badges, he had to do a service project for each rank and earn 11 required and 10 elective merit badges.
He completed the final project — his Eagle Scout service project — during the summer of 2011. His project was to paint all the fire hydrants on Vine and Olive streets.
Since earning Eagle, McGonigal has earned a Bronze Palm for completing five additional merit badges.
His scouting career includes attending the National Jamboree in Virginia in 2010 and the Northern Tier Boundary Waters the summer of 2011.
