Maynard Janzen

Maynard D. Janzen, 79, died June 7. He was born Feb. 21, 1935, to Otto R. and Irma L. (Klassen) Janzen at his grandparents’ home in Hillsboro.

He grew up east of Goessel and attended a one-room school before graduating from Goessel High School. He was heavily involved in music.

He received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and music from Bethel College and taught general education and music for several years.

He also owned and maintained several rentals, worked as a real estate agent, and owned and operated Hesston Community Sale for 15 years.

He married Ginny Ramsey on Sept. 27, 1980. They divorced in 1998.

Janzen was preceded in death by a brother, Stuart, and two sisters, Delpha Dean and Sharon.

He is survived by two brothers, Junior of Hesston and Leon of Hesston; two stepdaughters, Dawn Cuellar of Newton and Danielle Vandiver of Emporia; and several step-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel College Mennonite Church in North Newton. Memorial funds have been established with Bethel College and Mennonite Central Committee.
