Max Lee Herzet

Max Lee Herzet passed away on Monday, April 15, 2013, at the age of 79. Max, one of seven children, was born on a farm in Marion, Kan., on Aug. 11, 1933.

He attended grade school in a one-room school house and graduated from Marion High School in 1951. Max attended Wichita University and graduated with a Bachelor of Business degree in 1956. He received the Gold Key Award from the Savings and Loan Graduate School of the University of Indiana in the early 1970s.

Max married Jacqueline Balzer on Dec. 11, 1953, and they were happily married for 59 years. They have four children: Gregory (Sandy Pickering), Bradley (DeAne Thomson), Jeffrey (Marsha Wesbrook), and Beth Davis (Alan). Max and Jacque have 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

After 43 years, Max retired as senior vice president of Mid-Kansas Federal Savings and Loan in 1992. Max and Jacque were members of College Hill United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. After retirement, they spent time traveling and volunteering. Max was dearly loved by his family and friends.

A celebration of life was held Friday, April 20, 2013, at College Hill United Methodist Church, 2930 E. 1st Street North, Wichita. Private inurnment will follow at Lakeview Mausoleum.
